Each block is an index number, a timecode in HH:MM:SS,mmm format (note the comma before milliseconds), and the caption text. Reach for an SRT when you need the subtitles as a separate, editable file — uploading to YouTube, handing to a video editor, or reusing across platforms. If instead you want the words drawn permanently into the picture, that's burned-in captions — the opposite end of the workflow.
